Board of Education Chair Michelle Embree Ku said on November 4 that keeping community spread levels of COVID-19 low is important with the priority of keeping students in school buildings.

Newtown’s load of coronavirus cases has surged from 319 to 343 since last week, prompting a top local health official to advise residents to step up their use of face coverings and other proven measures at home and in their workplaces.

The return of middle and high school students to Newtown’s public school buildings full time, scheduled for November 2, is being delayed to November 30, as announced by Superintendent of Schools Dr Lorrie Rodrigue on October 29.
