Girls’ Tennis Tourney Underway

The South-West Conference’s individual girls’ tennis tournament got going at Joel Barlow High School in Redding on Tuesday. Newtown’s top singles player Christina Ciamarra and the No. 1 doubles team of Meghan Loose and Kristen Tanner advanced with first-round wins.

Matches were scheduled to resume on Wednesday (after The Bee sports section went to press).

The Nighthawks narrowly missed qualifying for the SWC’s team tourney despite a seven-match winning streak late in the regular season.
