Gloria Walsh

Gloria Walsh, age 92, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2019, at the Apple Rehab facility in Middletown. Gloria was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Frank (Rocco) and Mary Capuano. She is predeceased by her husband, Thomas Francis Walsh.

Gloria was trained as a registered nurse and served the soldiers returning home from World War II. She was on the team that opened the Brooklyn VA hospital. Gloria often spoke of what a privilege it was to care for those wounded soldiers. Later in life, Gloria worked at Just Looking in Newtown and then Dress Barn in Danbury. She enjoyed knowing that she was helping people to “dress nice for half the price.” While living in Queens Village, N.Y., Gloria was active in her church, Our Lady of Lourdes. She participated in charitable events and served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts.

Gloria is survived by her daughter, Mariann Chimbole, and her husband, George of Middletown; her son, Thomas Walsh, and his wife, Yvonne, of Stratford; and her grandchildren, Gregory Walsh and his wife, Kristina, Amanda Summa and her husband, Arty, Christopher Walsh, Matthew Walsh and his girlfriend, Erin Carlson. Her great-grandchildren, Avery, Aiden, and Riley, were a joy to her. She is also survived by her sister, Dolores Gerace, and brothers, Vincent and Peter Capuano. Her sister, Beatrice Gallante, predeceased her.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Joseph’s Church in Brookfield on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. Interment at St Rose Cemetery in Sandy Hook will follow at a later date in the Spring.
