By Julie Landin and

Chris Tomasack

Mr Bird’s class just finished their animal books. They have been reading the books and the teachers reviewed them. Ali Swink wrote a book on tarsiers. The review said, “This is an exceptionally well written book that will be enjoyed by children of all ages.” To go with his book Erich Dinnan brought in a gecko, Stewy! Maggie Hemingway wrote about Betsy the polar bear. The students also have been writing essays about their favorite bikes. Emily Forestieri is writing about a “switch-back ex.” In science they are going to put their crickets in the eco columns.

In Mrs Cunningham’s class Keilly McQuil won the Hawley DARE essay contest for the whole school. Brittany Pasko and Alexa Faeth had birthdays this month. On March 3 Zach D’Adostino is having a birthday and the day before that is Alex Hennesey’s birthday. The class is working on animal reports. They made Venn diagrams on the computer. They are studying two digit multiplication and order of operation. They are reading the book Tuck Ever Lasting. They are writing essays. The class is looking forward to hear the middle school jazz band. They are having a Dr Suess week. And last Tuesday was DARE night!_Mr Roodhuyzen’s class has been doing math mid terms. They continue spelling stories. The students always make fun of Mr R because of his lumpy head. They are starting decimals. They sill do writers workshop. They had a time for kids game. They are continuing book clubs. They are also still doing spelling tests and cloz sheets. The class does book buddies with Mrs Lega’s class. Mr R reads Harry Potter to the class every day after recess.

Mr Wilkinson’s class is doing their eco systems and have been talking a lot about the Civil War. They dressed up as people in the Civil War. The class had to write about their hero. Alyson Graham wrote about her mom and Danielle Nicolosi is writing about her sister, Jessica. And that is Hawley’s 5th grade news!
