Memory Walk For Alzheimer’s

HARTFORD — On October 8, the Alzheimer’s Association of Northern Connecticut will hold its annual Memory Walk to raise funds for programs and services to assist Alzheimer’s families.

There will be three walk sites in the Northern Connecticut Chapter area: Hartford’s Bushnell Park, Town Green in Enfield, and Stafford High School in Stafford Springs. All three walks begin at 10 am and are part of more than 400 being held nationwide to support the Alzheimer’s Association.

The event will provide a doggie walk area so families can bring their dogs, on leash. In addition to a 5K walk, there will also be activities for children including a moon bounce, rides on the Bushnell Park carousel, and face painting. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Key West Trio, a popular group known for their Jimmy Buffet-style music (Mr Buffet’s father suffers from Alzheimer’s disease). Also performing will be a quartet from the Sweet Adelines and a lively Irish step-dancing troupe from the Shamrock School of Irish Dance in Plainville.

New this year, the Hartford walk in Bushnell Park will provide a brief ecumenical service led by Chaplain Sean Kennelly at 9:30 am. Walkers will also be able to visit the Alzheimer’s Awareness and Remembrance areas to receive information about caregiver resources and programs.
