MONROE — Monroe Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce that the Wolfe Park Concert Series has a new night: Friday evenings to help kick off the weekend.

The new night has allowed organizers to bring in a new slate of entertainers that are guaranteed to bring guests to their feet and get hands clapping. All concerts begin at 7 pm and are held in the concert picnic area on the pool side of Wolfe Park.

A 2013 Wolfe Park vehicle parking sticker is needed to park in the main parking lot. Those without stickers need to park in the overflow lot.

Bring a blanket or chairs for seating, and your favorite beverage, to enjoy an evening outdoors under the stars with friends and family.

This season’s performers are as follows:

*July 5 (rain date Sunday, July 7): Gold Rush.

Cutting edge acoustic country band that brings a blend of high energy musical genres to the stage. Their repertoire features a mix of original songs as well as classic country, swing acoustic and traditional bluegrass songs.

*July 12: Eight To The Bar.

Eight To The Bar will turn up the heat with an evening of swing, boogie-woogie, rhythm & blues, soul and Motown.

*July 19 (rain date July 21): Annie and the Mixers.

This Cheshire based band is making their first visit to Monroe and promises to please any crowd mixing up top country hits with classic rock and some Blues thrown in for good measure.  Lead singer Annie Wilson and male vocalists perform songs from Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood and Lady Antebellum to The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, The Doobie Brothers and Journey.

*July 26 (rain date July 28): Sounds of Frank.

Back by popular demand, The Sounds of Frank offer a tribute to the music of Frank Sinatra, one of America’s greatest entertainers.  The Sounds of Frank is a professional six-piece instrumental and vocal group performing some of the best hits made famous by “old blue eyes.”

The group is among the region’s most genuine musical tributes to Zappa and his music.

Wolfe Park is at 285 Cutlers Farm Road in Monroe.
