Newtown Residents Fare Well

In Bridgewater Country Fair

BRIDGEWATER — Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company brought home three more awards for its trophy case and a handful of Newtown residents won honors during last weekend’s Bridgewater Country Fair.

Presented from Friday, August 19, through Sunday, August 21, this year’s was the 54th staging of the weekend event coordinated by Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department. The fair opened on Friday with its traditional Firemen’s Parade. Of the 42 companies represented on Friday evening, Sandy Hook was awarded trophies for Best Appearing Unit in Shirts, Best Appearing Auxiliary, and Best Appearing Firemen’s Color Guard.

Also finishing the weekend with honors was Shannon Paproski, who won the Novice division of the Dairy Competition. In the Hobbies competitions, Erik Benson won first place in Class IV — Collections/Assorted; and Matthew Austin placed second in Class II — Homemade.

In Junior needlework, Victoria Sandifer won Best of Show and first place in Class 6 — Costume, first place in Class 11 — Miscellaneous, and second place in Class 2 — Child’s Dress.

Olivia Dillon won a trophy and finished in first place for Class 9 — Pillows.

Two adult residents also won a few awards. Sandy Schill was the first place winner in Vegetable & Fruit for Largest Red Cabbage, and photographer Art Anderson won first place, second place, and Best in Show for his black and white photography entries.
