NHS Golfers Compete In Postseason Tourneys

Newtown High School’s golf team competed in the South-West Conference championship at Ridgewood Country Club in Danbury, on May 31, and the Nighthawks finished fourth. Newtown also teed off in the Division I state championship at Fairview Farm Golf Course in Harwinton, on June 4. The Hawks placed 16th among 20 teams. Newtown golfers Brian LeBlanc and Chris Erikson teamed up to participate in the annual Chappa Tournament at Longshore Country Club in Westport on May 23, and the duo had a score of 75.

In the SWC championship, the Nighthawks finished behind winner Weston, runner-up Pomperaug of Southbury, and Joel Barlow of Redding. LeBlanc shot a 79, Erikson fired an 81, Graham Hubbert had an 83, and Colin Patrick had an 84. Vivek Tedla also competed and shot an 89. The top four scores counted and Newtown shot a 327, the best the team has done in a decade, Coach Bill Flood said. Weston had a team score of 313 to win the title.

In the D-I championship, Pomperaug was first with a team score of 303. Newtown had a team score of 336. LeBlanc shot an 81, Erikson an 83, Hubbert an 84, and Patrick and Josh Houle both fired an 88.
