Newtown High School's girls' tennis team bounced back from a 5-2 loss to Joel Barlow of Redding on May 1 with a 5-2 victory over Brookfield the next day.

In the win over Brookfield, top singles player Marie Ann Tomaj won 6-0, 6-0, No. 3 player Jen Lorenz won 6-0, 6-2, and third singles player Payton Bradley prevailed 6-2, 6-3. The top doubles tandem of Julia Klein and Julia Dolan won 6-4, 6-3 and the third doubles team of Katerina Rosen and Julia Clark won 6-0, 6-2. Newtown's second doubles pairing of Amelia Hufschmied and Mary Celentano pushed Brookfield's Sophia Forlenza and Kate Yurcisin three sets but fell 4-6, 6-2, 4-6.

Against Barlow, Tomaj won 6-1, 6-1, and the team of Klein and Dolan won a hard-fought battle with Barlow's Claire Lamb and Laurel Winslow 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Newtown defeated Bunnell of Stratford 7-0 on May 6. Conrad won in three sets at first singles, and Lorenz, Hufschmied, and Bradly all took home singles wins with two-set triumphs. Klein and Dolan, Rosen and Clark, and Reign Bernard and Adisa Gjonbalaj all took home doubles victories, each doing so two sets.

The girls defeated New Fairfield in a rain-shortened match, 4-1. Tomaj, Conrad, and Lorenz all won in singles play, and Klein and Dolan won at first doubles.

On the boys' courts, the Nighthawks fell 7-0 to Barlow on May 1, then lost a 4-3 decision to Brookfield on May 2. Sam Cannizzo won 6-3, 6-1 at first singles. The No. 2 doubles team of Jacob Shuman and Josh Parsons won 6-0, 6-0, and the third doubles team of Chris Lindsay and Matthew Weisgerber won 6-2, 6-1.

The Nighthawks blanked Bunnell of Stratford 7-0 on May 6. Cannizzo, Stephen Dooley, Nihar Soman, and Ben Futterman, and doubles tandems Luke Sposato and Rohan Mansukhani, Parsons and Shuman, and Milan Chand and Sachin Mansukhani all won in two sets.
