The Newtown Bee has received the following information as of December 12.

A 7 pm interfaith service of remembrance on Friday, December 14, will take place at Congregation Adath Israel, 115 Huntington Road, to honor the 26 people killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School six years ago.

The memorial service, this year being co-hosted by Adath Israel and Newtown Interfaith Association, will take place during the synagogue’s Friday evening Shabbat service. There will be participation with readings by all religious groups: Christian, Muslim, Bahai, and Jewish.

All members of the community, along with residents of neighboring communities, are invited. Free childcare will be available. Refreshments will be served following the service.

Other houses of worship are offering opportunities for personal reflection that day.

Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, will be open from 9 am to 5 pm, and have the Meditation Room available for quiet reflection. The room will have art and other items sent in support of the community soon after the tragedy as a reminder of the love and care which continues to surround everyone. The Meditation Room is in the church library, on the lower level of the building.

At 9:30 am, the Congregational Church bell will be rung to remember and honor the lives lost six years ago and to recognize and surround those who continue on the journey of trauma, grief, and loss.

Newtown United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road, will be open from 9 am to 5 pm for reflection and prayer.

St Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, 46 Church Hill Road, will offer a Day of Remembrance. Masses will be celebrated at 6:45 and 9 am and 7 pm. 

Trinity Episcopal Church, 36 Main Street, will be open for prayer from 9 am to 5 pm.

The Resiliency Center of Newtown, 153 South Main Street, will be open Friday from 9 am until 5 pm; open to the community to simply gather or receive support. Everyone is welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

All Town offices, departments and agencies will be closed between 9:30 and 9:45 am on Friday so that employees can observe a brief period of silence and reflection in honor and remembrance of 12/14.
