'Sandwich Generation' Seminar To Focus On Aging Parents
âSandwich Generationâ Seminar
To Focus On Aging Parents
BROOKFIELD â The public is invited to a seminar on issues faced by adult children of aging parents.
âPlanning for the Future with Our Aging Parents: A Dine and Learn Seminar for the Sandwich Generationâ will be held from 5:30 to 7 pm on Monday, September 29, at The Village at Brookfield Common, 246-A Federal Road.
The term âsandwich generationâ has been used to describe a growing segment of the baby boomer generation who feel squeezed between the needs of their aging parents and the demands of their own children, spouses, and careers. A panel of experts will offer tips and practical tools to help adult children make sound decisions about their aging parents.
Susan Jackson, director of community relations at The Village at Brookfield Common, will moderate the panel discussion. Panel members will include Joan Garbow, LCSW, geriatric care manager; Barbara Reynolds, Esquire, and Rosemary Jones, Esquire, certified elder care attorneys; and Monika Westerdal-Midkiff, director of the Lighthouse Club for mild cognitive impairment at The Village at Brookfield Common.
Attendees will learn how to have a meaningful discussion with parents about aging and when to make the move to senior living. They will also learn to recognize forgetfulness and dementia and what to do about it. Other topics include wills, power of attorney, and health care proxy.
The program is free and open to the public. Dinner will be served. Space is limited, and reservations are required. Call The Village at Brookfield Common at 775-8696.
