Summer Movie Night To Feature Recent Disney Release

Newtown Parks & Recreation and Newtown Prevention Council will co-host Newtown's first outdoor Summer Movie Night on Tuesday, August 9, at Fairfield Hills.Zootopia.

The screening will feature Disney's recent animated release,

This collaborative effort will be a family-friendly community event. The screening is scheduled to begin at dusk, approximately 8:30 pm. Hip-hop artist and DJ Austin Dailey of Red Supreme Productions will facilitate an interactive dance party/workshop starting at 7:30 pm.

Mr Dailey's workshop focuses on encouraging exercise, promoting positive self-esteem, and making healthy choices.

Admission is free. Attendees should bring a blanket or chairs for seating. Limited concessions will be available.

Pets and alcoholic beverages are not allowed.

In the event of inclement weather, the festivities will be postponed until Tuesday, August 16.

Amy Mangold, director of Newtown Parks & Recreation, is looking forward to offering a great evening for local families.

"We are excited to be able to offer this family-friendly event for the Newtown community," she said. "It has been wonderful working in collaboration with the Newtown Prevention Council to offer this fun and positive community event for our families."

Newtown Parks & Recreation offers quality parks, recreation and leisure opportunities for the Newtown community which are both healthful and educational. Recreational facilities and programs act as community gathering places, fostering social interaction in an attractive environment.

Newtown Prevention Council (NPC) is a coalition of diverse community members committed to creating a culture in Newtown that positively engages the community to empower youth and families to make healthy, thoughtful decisions and to support substance-free living.

NPC holds five meetings per year, every other month on the third Thursday of that month, from 3 to 4:30 pm throughout the school year. Meetings are open to the public.
