The Town of Newtown issued a report noting that as of 10 am, Monday, January 21, “roughly 5 percent (600 homes) of our community” remained without power, down from a high of 2,300 the night before.

“Eversource is presently focusing on six outage areas representing approximately 350 outages as follows, according to the town announcement: Berkshire Road (140 homes), Grays Plain (99), Old Road (38), Little Brook (35), Hattertown (27), and Currituck (19). Restoration to these areas is expected by 2 pm Monday.”

Newtown’s First Selectman Dan Rosenthal and the Emergency Management Office continue to urge residents to be safe and stay informed following a winter storm that arrived early Sunday, January 20:

*Avoid the use of candles due to the risk of fire if left unattended

*Do not use outside cooking equipment inside

*Keep generator exhaust away from residence

*Stay away from power lines

Residents can visit Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street, on Monday 9 am to 5 pm, or Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road, also from 9 am to 5 pm Monday, for warming station/cell phone/electronic equipment charging/WiFi. Residents should note that town offices are closed due to Martin Luther King Jr Day, however, so town officials will not be present at the municipal center and programming will not be happening at the senior center.
