CHADDS FORD, PENN. — Discover the wonderful world of art during “Winter Weekends for Families” at the Brandywine River Museum January 26–February 24.

Children of all ages will enjoy “Jerry Pinkney: Aesop’s Fables and other Tails,” on view through March 9. This exhibition features delightful portrayals of animals for The Tortoise and the Hare, The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing and other fables by Aesop. The winner of numerous awards, including five Caldecott Honor medals and five Coretta Scott King awards, Pinkney skillfully captures the wit and whimsy of these timeless classics. The exhibition also includes illustrations Pinkney created for The Ugly Duckling, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, Uncle Remus Tales and other well-known children’s stories.

Explore the museum’s galleries with a “Museum Discovery Game,” where a viewer’s powers of observation will be tested to find certain objects represented in the works of art. As part of “Winter Weekends,” visitors will also receive a free copy of the Family Guide: A Museum Activity Book. The guide contains a treasure of activities for children to use during their museum visits or at home.

Audio tours specially designed for children ages 6 through 12 are available in the museum shop. Audio tour rentals are $3 each or two for one. The tours feature commentary on more than 30 favorite works of art from the museum’s collection, including “Bill Bones” from N.C. Wyeth’s Treasure Island illustrations, Jamie Wyeth’s “Portrait of Pig” and Howard Pyle’s The Nation Makers.

As an exclusive offer during “Winter Weekends,” visitors may purchase new Brandywine River Museum annual family memberships five percent off the regular price.

On US Route 1, the Brandywine River Museum is open daily 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Admission is $8 for adults; $5 for seniors ages 65 and over, students with ID, and children ages 6 to 12; and free for children under 6 and Brandywine Conservancy members.
