Wooster School Launches Early Childhood Program

DANBURY — Wooster School announced on January 5 plans to inaugurate an education program for children aged 3, to launch in September 2011.

Wooster already provides early childhood educational programs for 4- and 5-year-olds. Extending this curriculum to include 3-year-olds will provide an alternative to parents of the youngest school-aged children in Danbury, northern Fairfield County, and Putnam and northern Westchester Counties in New York.

This expansion of Wooster’s existing prekindergarten program is an important component of the school’s long-term strategic plan, which encompasses a number of initiatives designed to enrich the educational possibilities in Danbury and the surrounding area.

“As Wooster celebrates its 85th year, we remain committed to meeting the educational needs of students and families in the community in forward-looking ways,” said James Mustich, president of the Board of Trustees.

The extended early childhood development program will be housed on the Wooster campus in a refurbished Wellington cottage. Architectural plans for the project have been drawn and construction work will begin in January and be completed this summer.

Wooster School Headmaster Tim Golding said, “Ever since we established our preK program in 2008, parents of 3-year-olds have been asking us when we’d extend the reach of the Wooster curriculum and philosophy to serve their children. We’re delighted that we’ll be starting to meet that demand this coming September.”

Parents interested in the Wooster program for 3-year-olds can call the Admissions Office at 203-830-3916 or 3915.

Wooster School at 91 Miry Brook Road is an independent, college preparatory day school that serves boys and girls from early childhood through grade 12 in small classes that average 12 students.
