Two Charges

Police said that after learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Earlisha Watson, 29, of Waterbury turned herself over to police at the police station on the night of January 14 and was charged with credit card theft and with conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny in connection with a November 1 incident.

Watson posted a $15,000 bond and was released for an arraignment on the charges on February 2 in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Arrest

Police report that while on patrol on Main Street about 11:20 pm on January 14, they spotted a northbound 2005 Honda Accord being driven erratically, so they stopped motorist Jason Foster, 39, of Brookfield to investigate.

Police report they charged Foster with driving under the influence, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to drive to the right.

Following arrest processing at the police station, police released Foster on $250 bail for a February 2 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.

Police Vehicle

Police said that town police Sergeant Scott Ruszczyk, 47, was driving a 2015 Ford Explorer police SUV uphill and westward on a snow-covered Mt Pleasant Road, near Johnnie Cake Lane, about 7:50 pm on January 17, as motorist Kelvin Martinez, 33, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder SUV eastward on Mt Pleasant Road was negotiating a downhill, left curve in the roadway.

The Nissan then began to slide, went out of control, and started spinning about, after which the Nissan entered the opposite lane, striking the police vehicle, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report that Martinez received a misdemeanor summons for traveling too fast for conditions and for driving with a suspended license.

New Beetle Crash

At about 9:26 am on January 15, motorist Kathy Ianus, 45, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2003 Volkswagen New Beetle eastward on a wet Wasserman Way, just east of its intersection with Nunnawauk Road, lost control of the vehicle, after which it struck some guardrailing on the right road shoulder, spun about, and then struck some guardrailing on the left road shoulder, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Ianus a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Palestine Road

Motorist Helene Bravik Sorensen, 19, of 160 Boggs Hill Road was driving a 2013 Kia Optima sedan northward on Palestine Road, near Galilee Way, about 2:20 pm on January 12 when the vehicle went out of control, traveled off the right road shoulder and then rolled over onto its passenger side, police said.

Sorensen received a minor cut and refused medical attention, police said. Police said they issued Sorensen a misdemeanor summons for driving with a suspended license and for making a restricted turn.

Slippery Road

At about 7:40 pm on January 17, motorist Abdou Maman, 50, of Hamden, who was driving a 2008 Ford Focus eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Johnnie Cake Lane, when the auto started sliding during adverse weather conditions while Maman was negotiating a downhill curve, police said.

The vehicle went out of control, spun about, and then struck the eastbound curbing, after which it went down an embankment and overturned, landing on its drivers’ side, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Maman written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Church Hill Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Church Hill Road and the Exit 10 ramps for eastbound Interstate 84 about 10:38 am on January 14, police said.

The collision involved motorist Daniel Foito, 21, of Stratford, who was driving a 2007 Nissan Altima, and motorist Richard MacNeil, 64, of New Milford, who was driving a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Foito received an infraction for making a restricted turn, police said.

Dodge Vs Toyota

Police report a two-vehicle accident that occurred in a parking lot at 53 Church Hill Road about 5:30 pm on January 12.

The collision involved motorist Alexander Michaud, 17, of 78 Narragansett Trail, who was driving a 2005 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, and motorist Sally Pham, 43, of Danbury, who was driving a 2013 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, according to police. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Highway Collision

State police report that motorist Cole Case, 19, of New Milford was driving a 2009 Volkswagen CC Luxury sedan westward on Interstate 84, near the Exit 11 off-ramp, about 10:36 pm on January 15, when the vehicle drove off the left road shoulder and struck some guardcabling.

There were no injuries. State police said they issued Cole an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane.

Ford Off Road

At about  9:55 am on January 13, motorist Andrew Mitchell, 45, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2002 Ford Focus westward on Interstate 84 west of Exit 9, lost control of the auto and drove onto the  left road shoulder, striking some guardcabling, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said Mitchell failed to maintain the travel lane.

Conflicting Statements

At about 5 pm on January 11 a two-vehicle collision occurred on eastbound Interstate 84 between Exits 10 and 11, which involved motorist Adam Greenberg, 46, of Southbury, who was diving a 2008 Toyota Prius, and motorist John G Lewis, Sr, 53, of 301 South Main Street, who was driving a 2010 GMC Terrain SUV, state police said.

There were no injuries. The two drivers provided conflicting statements about the accident, and there were no independent witnesses, so no enforcement action was taken, according to state police.

Honda Vs Rocks

Police report that motorist Mandy Beckett, 51, of 1 Sweetbriar Lane was driving a 2011 Honda Civic auto southward on Jeremiah Road, near its intersection with Brandywine Lane, when the Honda went off the right road shoulder and struck a pile of rocks about 3:50 pm on January 18.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Beckett for making a restricted turn.

Wasserman at Berkshire

At about 7 pm on January 14, motorist Matthew Datin, 22, of 60 Parmalee Hill Road, who was driving a 2003 Saturn Ion sedan eastward on Wasserman Way, stopped at a red traffic signal at Wasserman Way’s intersection with Berkshire Road, police said.

Motorist Antonio Cordeiro, 43, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2008 Ford Edge SUV, then struck the rear end of the Saturn, police said. 

There were no injuries. Cordeiro received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

 Flagpole Intersection

At about 8:11 am on January 18, motorist Tatiane Sporre, 32, of 270 Berkshire Road, who was driving a 2015 Nisan Rogue SUV, stopped on westbound Church Hill Road for traffic conditions near the Church Hill Road/Main Street flagpole intersection, police said.

Motorist Douglas Cooke, 46, of Oxford, who was driving a 2011 GMC Sierra pickup truck, then struck the rear end of the Nissan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Cooke for following too closely.

Multiple Charges

Police report that they responded to a Sandy Hook residence about 9:51 am on January 13, after receiving a complaint from a mother that her 17-year-old son was under the influence of drugs.

Police said that after they arrived at the home with a crisis intervention counselor, the youth was found to be agitated and combative.

The youth became profane and then attempted to leave the premises, becoming physical with police, spitting on an officer, police said.

Police said they issued the youth a juvenile summons, charging him with assault on a police officer, interfering with police, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they released the youth into the custody of his parents and the youth was transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked. Because the boy is under age 18, police did not disclose his identity.

Hawleyville Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred about 6 pm on January 19 at the intersection of Hawleyville Road and Old Hawleyville Road.

Police said motorist Edward Suttile, 49, of Oxford, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Sequoia minivan, was waiting at a stop sign on Old Hawleyville Road at the intersection, when motorist Jennifer Good, 51, of 52 Charter Ridge Drive, who was driving a 2016 Audi Q-5 SUV northward on Hawleyville Road, attempted to make a left turn onto Old Hawleyville Road, but then struck the Toyota.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Good a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the Main Street flagpole intersection at about 3 pm on January 20. Police said that motorist Nancy Sudik, 67, of Bethel was driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV northward on Main Street and was approaching the flagpole intersection, as motorist Alessandra Manfred, 16, of 1 Wilderness West Road, who was driving a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta sedan westward on Church Hill Road, stopped at the stop sign at the intersection. The Volkswagen then pulled out onto Main Street, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said. Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters and the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene. Police said they issued Manfred a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.     
An accident involving two SUVs occurred at the intersection of Castle Hill Road and West Street about 9:11 am on January 15. Police report that motorist Joyce Gless, 61, of Bethel was driving a 1999 Honda CR-V SUV southeastward on Castle Hill Road, as motorist Julia Conlin, 40, of 11 Old Castle Drive was driving a 2010 Honda Pilot SUV northeastward on West Street. The Pilot then attempted to make a left turn to enter Castle Hill Road, but the CR-V did not stop at a stop sign there, resulting in a collision, police said. There were no injuries. Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters and the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene. Police said they issued Gless an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.
