Newtown VNA Is Planning For Annual Wear Red Day

The Newtown Visiting nurse Association is urging Newtown Women to go red in honor of Women’s Heart Health and the American Heart Association nationwide movement to celebrate the energy, passion, and power women have to band together to wipe out heart disease. Friday, February 2, is the day women are urged nationwide to wear red all day in honor of the heart association’s Go Red For Women campaign.

The American Heart Association believes that heart disease can be largely prevented. The Go Red campaign empowers women with the knowledge and tools so they can take positive action to reduce their risks of heart disease.

The Newtown Visiting Nurses are encouraging women Go Red on February 2 and encourage all their friends and co-workers to do so as well.

“Last year a number of gentlemen in Newtown wore red ties in support of women’s heart health and it was just super,” said Mae Schmidle, the treasurer of Newtown VNA.

The movement gives women tips and information on healthy eating, exercise and risk factor reduction, such as smoking cessation, weight maintenance, blood pressure control, and blood cholesterol management.
