Vocational Training Award Program Offered

WOODBURY — The Weller Foundation, Inc (formerly The Vitramon Foundation, Inc) has announced that full-time senior students from Joel Barlow, Masuk, Newtown, Shelton, and Trumbull High Schools may now submit applications for this year’s Vincent Voccia Vocational Award.

The award is named in memory of former Vitramon trustee Vincent A. Voccia. The Voccia Award will provide financial assistance to one student from each of the five high schools who has selected a vocational-technical career and will shortly enter vocational training.

Alexander Fraser, foundation trustee and coordinator of the program, said the award recipients will be eligible for a grant equal to the lesser of $2,500 or 50 percent of the tuition cost of the vocational program proposed.

To be eligible, students must be attending high school at the time the award is made, have demonstrated an interest or talent in his or her chosen field, and satisfy the admissions requirements of the selected institution. Any qualified student who submits an application will be considered for the award; there are no other requirements.

Applications for the award must be received by March 27 at their respective high school guidance department. A minimum of three qualified applications is necessary for each high school to select one award recipient. The award recipient will be announced on or about April 10.

Students interested in applying for the award may obtain full details and an application form from their school’s guidance department.
