MARY RYAN GALLERY New Space in CHELSEA, DONALD SULTAN

avv/gs set 1-29 #686321

NEW YORK CITY — Mary Ryan Gallery celebrates its 25th anniversary by opening up a new space at 527 West 26th Street, ground level, with an inaugural exhibition of new works by Donald Sultan.

After more than 15 years at 24 West 57th Street, the gallery has decided to make its move to Chelsea to promote and expand its contemporary art program through the works of current and new gallery artists. The gallery had been looking to make this move for some time but finding the right space was important.

“We are excited to be a part of the Chelsea art community and hope to add a fresh program to the already burgeoning art scene,” said Mary Ryan.

The new, completely gut-renovated gallery is a 3,000-square-foot ground floor space nearby former 57th Street colleagues such as George Adams, James Cohan and Galerie Lelong. In the new gallery, there will be three distinct exhibition spaces with rotations of contemporary solo exhibitions of gallery artists along with works by modern and contemporary artists that the gallery has dealt with during its tenure.

The new space was designed by the architectural firm Murdock Young Architects, and the lighting design was conceived by Tillotson Design, both of New York City.

“Donald Sultan: Colors, Smoke and War” will be on view February 16–March 31. An opening reception will take place for the artist Saturday, February 17, from 6 to 8 pm.
