After School & Evening Events Canceled Due To Expected Weather

Newtown Public Schools has announced all after school and evening events are being canceled for Tuesday, January 29, due to winter weather expected to move into the area. 

A National Weather Service (NWS) Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6 am Wednesday, January 30. Light snow was seen in town this morning, and is expected to continue across northern Fairfield County, interior portions of Lower Hudson Valley in New York, and western Bergen and western Passaic counties in northeast New Jersey, according to the weather service.

Snowfall of one inch per hour are “possible at times late this afternoon and this evening,” according to NWS. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected. 

The weather service is also saying the snow will possibly mix with rain or change to rain for a few hours late “this afternoon into the start of the evening across southern portions of the advisory area. The precipitation returns to all snow later this evening, before ending late tonight into early Wednesday morning.”

Slippery road conditions are expected. 

Newtown High School's Mid-Year Graduation Ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, January 29, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, January 30.

The Board of Education meeting scheduled for January 29 has also been postponed to January 30.

Newtown Parks & Recreation announced Tuesday afternoon that its after school and evening programs for January 29 were also being canceled.
