“Color Reflections,” the first AIR Gallery show of 2019, will open Wednesday, February 6.

Presented within Avance Day Spa at The Villages at Lexington Gardens, the exhibition will feature original paintings by Newtown artist Roberta Shea and the debut of photographer Daniel Leroux. It will remain on view until March 31.

Seasonal landscapes are the inspiration in the current series of works by Ms Shea. Although representational, her landscapes are a blend of actual or imagined scenes and memories.

Loosely structured and soft in detail, Ms Shea’s paintings are more emotional than narrative. To heighten the emotional impact of her paintings, she contrasts light with dark tones, warm with cool colors and thick impasto with thin paint applications.

When asked by show curator Rosemary Rau what gives her the most enjoyment, Ms Shea replied “the actual process of laying down the color and reacting to that color. Much like a ballet — rhythmic and continual —each stroke informs the next. Painting allows me to be myself and no one else. The canvas is my territory, and my challenge is to make it better and brighter.”

Originally from Normandy in France, Daniel Leroux lived abroad for two decades. His love of color and light began at early age. His inspiration is taken from the sights and times of numerous trips taken in different countries, using the family’s camera to capture the moments.

Working in the Monroe-based family art design and printing business, Mr Leroux has always been a part of the creative process, from inception to final production.

Newly retired, he is eager to enter this new phase of life, sharing his photo art for the enjoyment of others.

The public is invited to visit the AIR Gallery at the Avance Day Spa, 32 Church Hill Road, during spa business hours: Tuesdays and Thursday, 11 am to 8 pm; Wednesdays, 10 am to 6 pm; Fridays, 9 am to 6 pm; and Saturdays, 9 am to 5 pm.

The spa is handicapped friendly. Call 203-270-8911 for additional information.

“Thyme on The River” by Daniel Leroux, one of two artists who will have works at The AIR Gallery at Avance Day Spa. The first show of the new year will open February 6 and remain on view through the end of March.

"Komorebi" is an oil painting by Roberta Shea, who will also be represented in the first show of the year at The AIR Gallery at Avance Day Spa.
