UPDATE  (Monday, February 6, 2017) This story has been updated to reflect the correct name of the person arrested.EDITOR'S NOTE (Friday, February 3, 2017): This is an updated version of the stories about the January 27, 2017 crash on Huntingtown Road that were published online earlier this week.

Police report that a spectacular collision involving extensive damage occurred on Huntingtown Road on the night of Friday, January 27, when one of two autos, which were racing southward on the narrow back road, collided head-on with a northbound auto.

The crash sent three of the four local people involved in the incident to Danbury Hospital, where they were treated for injuries and then released from the emergency department, a hospital spokeswomen said February 1.

The impact of the crash created an extensive debris field on Huntingtown Road, just north of its intersection with Cold Spring Road. A third vehicle, which was one of the autos that was racing, was not involved in the collision, officials said.

The accident closed a section of Huntingtown Road to through-traffic for several hours as police investigated the collision. Motorists in the area used detours.

Police said they received a report at about 7:19 pm on January 27 that a vehicular accident had occurred near 79 Huntingtown Road.

According to a police statement, motorist Bailey Prestera, 21, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 1997 BMW sedan, and motorist Adam Debowski, 21, of Newtown, who was driving a 2004 Audi A-6 sedan, were traveling side-by-side while heading southward on Huntingtown Road, with the Audi traveling on the wrong side of the road. The Audi A-6 carried Nicholas Eisele, 19, of Sandy Hook as a passenger, police said.

At that time, motorist Akiko Stevens, 50, of Newtown was driving a 2007 Audi A-4 sedan northward on Huntingtown Road, police said.

The two Audis then collided head-on, police said.

Botsford Fire Rescue Chief Wayne Ciaccia said that Botsford firefighters responded to the incident and extricated Stevens from the wreckage after removing the driver's door from the Audi A-4.

Chief Ciaccia said the collision created a field of debris along Huntingtown Road that stretched for about 200 feet. "It was massive damage," he said. Eight Botsford volunteer firefighters responded to the incident, he said.

Of the Audi A-6 sedan, Chief Ciaccia said, "It looked like a train hit it."

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps ambulances transported Stevens, Debowski, and Eisele to Danbury Hospital, where all three people were treated for injuries and released.

Police said they arrested Prestera on charges of racing, reckless driving, passing in a no-passing zone, traveling too fast for conditions, and possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana. Prestera posted $250 bail and is scheduled for an arraignment on the charges on February 14 in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Police said their investigation is continuing and additional arrests are expected.
