"Monochromatic Moonlight Winter Sky" paintings were on display at Middle Gate Elementary School on Wednesday, January 27.

The paintings were created by fourth grade students, and art teacher Jean Walter explained the students created tints by slowly adding color to white and painting a concentric circle with each tint.

"Once they got to the pure color, they began to add black to the color to create shades to finish off the background," said Ms Walter, who also said her students have worked on trees since first grade so the art reflects previous knowledge about the natural growth of trees.

All fourth graders in town also did this project, according to Ms Walter.

She added, "We are focusing in on the elements of art, and the students' ability to identify them in art as well as use them in their own work.  All lessons align with national, state, and district standards for the visual arts."
