State Representative Mitch Bolinsky is alerting his constituents that The Connecticut Department of Transportation is planning to begin work this month on Interstate 84 within Newtown. Temporary traffic shifts associated with safety improvements and resurfacing are expected to affect highway travel, in both directions, in the vicinity of Exit 9 through Exit 10.

The traffic shifts are scheduled to begin on or about Monday, February 11, weather permitting.

The project consists of bridge rehabilitations and safety improvements on Interstate 84 in Newtown. The construction will be between Exit 9 and Exit 10, and all ramps in that area on Interstate 84. Motorists should expect lane shifts and lane closures during operations and should also anticipate impacts on vehicular traffic flow through this area.

DOT Project #0096-0200 was awarded to Waters Construction Co Inc at a cost of $23,737,867.49 on January 3, 2019, and is scheduled to be completed November 4, 2020.

Lane Closure Information

This project will require multiple stages for construction operations. On I-84 West, the majority of traffic impacts involving construction operations will be completed during night work operations:

*Monday through Thursday between 8 pm and 5 am;

*Friday, 9 pm to 6 am;

*Saturday, 8 pm to 7 am; and

*Sunday, 10 pm to 5 am.

On I-84 East, night work hours are scheduled for:

*Monday through Wednesday, 9 pm to 6 am;

*Thursday and Friday, 10 pm to 6 am;

*Saturday, 10 pm to 8 am; and

*Sunday, 10 pm to 6 am.

The construction operations may detour one ramp at a time for either Exit 9 or Exit 10 on-ramps or off-ramps between the hours of 10 pm until 5 am Sunday through Saturday.

Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
