Hit Pole And Bush

Newtown Police report Maxwell McKamy, 25, of New Milford, was traveling northbound on Washington Avenue at 6:24 am January 19. McKamy’s vehicle went off the southbound side of the road and struck a utility pole, then hit a bush, where it came to rest.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

McKamy was issued an infraction for failure to keep right on a curve.

Car Hits Tractor Trailer

Newtown Police report Dorothy Gerardi, 68, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Ford Edge, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 7:37 am January 23. Michael Williams, 64, of Bloomfield, operating a 2017 Freightliner M2 tractor trailer, was traveling northbound on South Main Street. Gerardi traveled over the double yellow line, causing the front driver’s side of his vehicle to strike the rear driver’s side tire of Williams’ vehicle.

Gerardi was examined by EMS and released at the scene. Gerardi’s vehicle was towed.

Gerardi was issued a verbal warning for failure to keep right on a curve.

School Bus And Semi Trade Mirrors

Newtown Police report Michael O’Malley, 61, of Ramsey, N.J., operating a 2020 Freightliner tractor trailer, was traveling northbound on Eden Hill Road approaching Oak Ridge Road at 3:15 pm January 29. Peter Sandler, 56, of Sandy Hook, operating an All Star Transportation school bus with 14 passengers on board, was traveling southbound on Eden Hill Road approaching Oak Ridge Road. As the two vehicles passed each other, the mirrors connected, causing minor damage to both vehicles.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

As the road was narrow and both vehicles were commercial vehicles, police issued no enforcement.

DUI Charge

Newtown Police report that on January 31, the department received a complaint regarding an erratic driver traveling north on Berkshire Road at 9:48 pm. Officers responded and located the vehicle, a 2015 Honda Accord. Officers executed a traffic stop and after a brief investigation, arrested Ryan Marron, 24, of Newtown, and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain lane.

Marron was released on a $500 bond with a court date of February 13 in Danbury Superior Court.

Hit Railroad Bridge

Newtown Police report Stanley Slupczewski, 72, of Oakville, operating a 2006 Freightliner M2 tractor trailer, was traveling east on Botsford Hill Road at 6:11 pm January 31. His vehicle struck the railroad bridge, doing damage to the vehicle and the bridge.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Slupczewski was issued an infraction for operation of a motor vehicle exceeding posted clearance.

Rear-Ended Making Turn

Newtown Police report Suzanne Deilus, 70, of Newtown, operating a 2016 Mazda 6, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 11:04 am February 1. She was traveling behind a 2020 Subaru Ascent operated by Bradley Hopkins, 40, of Bethel. Hopkins stopped in traffic to make a left turn into a private parking lot and Deilus did not stop in time, rear-ending Hopkins’ vehicle.

Deilus, Hopkins, and a passenger in Hopkins’ vehicle all reported possible injuries but none were transported to the hospital. Both vehicles were towed.

Deilus was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

DUI Charge

Newtown Police arrested Garrett Dandridge, 23, of Middletown, on the charge of illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs at 1:25 am February 2. He was released on a $500 surety bond with a court date of February 15.

Backed Into Mail Truck

Newtown Police report Tenezaca Gordillo, 26, of Hamden, operating a 2022 Ford Transit, was backing out of a driveway on Sugar Street at 12:21 pm February 2. Austin Schlenk, 27, of Wolcott, operating a USPS postal truck, was delivering mail to a mailbox on Sugar Street near Juniper Road. Gordillo backed her vehicle into the left side of the postal truck.

No injuries were reported. The postal vehicle was towed.

Gordillo was issued an infraction for unsafe backing.

Collision At Flag Pole

Newtown Police report Cathy Harmonay, 72, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2020 Mazda CX-9, was stopped on Church Hill Road at the intersection of Main Street at 2:17 pm February 3. Frederick Dirga, 50, of Middletown, operating a 2015 Acura LLX, was stopped southbound on Main Street at the intersection of Church Hill Road.

Harmonay entered the intersection to turn left onto Main Street before Dirga had moved, and the front driver’s side of Harmonay’s vehicle hit the rear driver’s side bumper of Dirga’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Harmonay was issued a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Incident In Parking Lot

Newtown Police report Kieng Hin, 63, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2010 Acura MDX, was attempting to pull into a parking space in the lot at 31 Pecks Lane. A 2013 GMC Sierra operated by George Krizan, 70, of Newtown, was parked in an adjacent spot. Hin’s vehicle struck Krizan’s vehicle on the passenger’s side.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Possession And Failure To Appear Charges

Newtown Police arrested Michael Montgomery, 51, of Waterbury, at 11:28 am February 6 and charged him with use of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance (first offense), and first-degree failure to appear. He was released on $26,000 in bonds with a court date of February 7 in Danbury Superior Court.
