The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will welcome Rick Daskam for a presentation on painting a landscape in oil at its next meeting-program.

The public should note that this program will take place at Newtown Municipal Center, within Fairfield Hills at 3 Primrose Street, rather than the group's traditional meeting location.

Mr Daskam's program will be offered Wednesday, February 24, at 1:30 pm. The demonstration is free and open to the public.

Rick Daskam's paintings have appeared in art galleries and juried exhibitions throughout Connecticut and New York In 1998, he followed his passion of painting plein air and spent his time painting landscapes and farms in the local area surrounding his home.

In 2002 Mr Daskam first visited Monhegan Island in Maine and fell in love with its rugged beauty. Returning every year for a week of "sun up to sun down" painting, the artist has produced some of his most memorable works since the discovery of the picturesque island.

Mr Daskam is on the board of Hudson Valley Art Association.

In 2004 he began entering juried art exhibitions and museum shows. Preferring to express his passion in oil, Mr Daskam's works have garnered him numerous awards including The Collectors Award from Butler Museum of American Art, the Claude Parsons Memorial Award for Landscape from the American Artists Professional League, the Frank Vincent Dumond Award for Best Light and Atmospheric Effect from Hudson Valley Art Association, and the John M. Lewis award from the Salmagundi Club in NYC.

In 2015 Rick had a show at the UConn campus at Point Avery in Groton, and a solo show of 38 paintings at the Minor Memorial Library in Roxbury.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs, but additional information is available by calling 203-426-6654.
