A Special Senior Prom For Lockwood Lodge Residents

Glittering garlands of red and silver hearts swathed the pillars and silver linen napkins were tented at each place setting in the Lockwood Lodge Assisted Living dining hall at Ashlar Monday evening, February 13, as residents and their guests prepared to celebrate Valentine’s Day and the fourth annual senior prom. The annual senior prom is an evening of dining, music, and dancing followed by the coronation of a king and queen of the year.

Peg Loulis, therapeutic recreation director at Lockwood, was on hand to pass out handmade boutonnieres and corsages to residents to complement his or her party attire as they entered the dining room, ready to dine on a special meal of prime rib roast or chicken Kiev, with an appetizer of shrimp cocktail. While they dined, music was provided by the guitar and vocals of Larry Ayce, a popular local entertainer.

Every lady and gentleman “dressed up” for the occasion and ballots were given to all attendees so they could nominate their choices for king and queen of the prom.

Dorothy Patterson and Mike Naskina received the most votes and were delighted they were chosen. As new residents to Lockwood Lodge, both said they were thrilled with the honor to be this year’s king and queen.

Several managers and staff members, including Ashlar of Newtown’s president Thomas Gutner, were on hand to help celebrate this special evening. Yvonne Bachand, marketing and community relations manager at Lockwood, said everyone who attended had a great time. “This is the fourth year Lockwood Lodge has held this event, and it has been a great success every time. A special thanks goes to Peggy Loulis, who works so hard organizing and creating this special night for our residents. Everyone enjoyed it so much we’re already looking forward to next year.”
