Occupation: I was an elementary teacher at Rye Country Day School in Rye, N.Y., for about 12 years. My husband was in the service and we moved a lot, so I learned a lot about buying and selling houses and decided to become a realtor. That’s what I did, until I retired.

Family: I have three children. Leigh is married to Chris, and they have a little boy, Sam, who is 8 years old. He’s spectacular. Leigh is a judge and a law firm partner. My son James is a corporate officer at Nuance. He’s married to Kristina, and they have a 7-month-old daughter, Eve. Vince Jr lives in California and is living the life, surfing. My husband, Vince, passed away three years ago, after 50 years of marriage.

Pets: No pets, now. We used to have dogs and cats, and we enjoyed them. But I like to travel now.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I moved to Newtown three years ago.

What do you like to do in your free time? I’m very busy. I’m at the Senior Center every day. I do yoga, Zumba, tai chi, and we have a wonderful discussion group that keeps me current. I go on a lot of the day trips, and they are fantastic. I read, and I’m active in the Republican Town Committee. I like theater and am a member at the Seven Angels Theater Group in Waterbury. I go down to the Westchester Playhouse, and to the Town Players on Orchard Hill, too. I’m active at Newtown High School as part of an intergenerational program. The kids are great here. They are charming.

Do you have a favorite theater play? I saw a very funny, very good play, Do Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up? at Seven Angels. It was very well done.

What are you currently reading? I just finished The Long Mile Home, about the Boston Marathon bombing. It was written by two journalists from The Boston Globe, Scott Helman and Jenna Russell. Two of my kids ran the Boston Marathon when they were in their 20s. It was a very well written book, but kind of terrifying, too.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I just got back from the Caribbean, but the best trip was one I took through the Senior Center, to Italy, in 2013. We flew to Rome, then to Sorrento. We went to the Isle of Capri. It was spectacular.

What is the best thing about Newtown? All the friends I’ve made. I feel like I’m surrounded by warm, loving people. I even love stopping in to the grocery store! People stop and talk to you here. They seem to care.

Who has been the greatest influence in your life? The people I’ve come in contact with at the Senior Center. I’ve found out that even at an older age, you can get better. You can grow and improve.

What was your favorite toy as a kid? It wasn’t a toy, but I loved playing with my dog. He was a mutt, named Tippy. I had him for years and years.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? I don’t feel guilty. But I think traveling is how I treat myself. When you see other people in their lifestyles, it’s interesting. And traveling makes you grateful for what we have.
