Newtown High School wrestler Nik Accousti earned sixth place in the wrestling State Open, which was held at Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven, February 22 and 23.

Accousti, competing in the 132-pound weight division, won a major decision and two regular decisions before losing to eventual runner-up Chase Parrot of Westhill of Stamford in the semifinals.

Class LL and South-West Conference champion Joe Zeller earned one win in the heavyweight division, and Steven Leuci competed at 160.

The Nighthawks, as a team, had won the South-West Conference championships and came in 12th in the Class LL state championships.
