LVA Achieves Accreditation

DANBURY — Literacy volunteers of Danbury, Inc, has achieved accreditation by the national Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc., announced LVA-Danbury Executive Director, Tom Pinkham. Accreditation is a comprehensive program of quality and accountability standards.

“LVA-Danbury, Inc. has demonstrated the ability to meet the highest standards of excellence in providing literacy services to its students and volunteers,” stated national LVA President Marsha L. Tait. “The Accreditation Award means that LVA-Danbury, Inc. provides excellent volunteer tutor training, quality literacy instruction, and effective nonprofit management.”

“We are delighted to receive this award,” stated Dawn Reshen-Doty, president of LVA-Danbury’s Board of Directors. “We have enjoyed so many successes among our students and volunteers, and for the national organization of Literacy Volunteers of America to identify us as a leader among more than 350 affiliates throughout the country has special meaning.”

LVA-Danbury also hopes that achieving accreditation will attract even more volunteer tutors to the program. “Accreditation recognizes the excellent training we provide to our volunteer tutors,” Pinkham said. “With 200 students on our waiting list, we hope to attract new volunteers for the rewarding experience of tutoring adults in conversational English.”

Literacy Volunteer of America, Inc. is a national not-for-profit organization, managed by professionals, which delivers local literacy services through a network of more than 350 community programs which support more than 50,000 volunteers and more than 70,000 adult literacy students.
