‘Paint-Out:’ Finished Works Now On View

A few months ago members of Roaring Lambs Visual Arts Ministry, an artists’ collective sponsored by Walnut Hill Congregational Church in Bethel, participated in a paint out at Newtown’s Cherry Grove Farm. Over a dozen artists turned out to spend a day at the pastoral landmark, creating the beginnings of works in their favorite media.

Now the group is presenting the results of that day trip in a public exhibition, “Paint-Out at Cherry Grove Farm.” The public is invited to visit the church and view the collection, which includes pastel paintings, colored pencil works, photographs, watercolors, charcoal drawings and quilted fabric graphics.

In addition to the artwork, photographs by Katherine Beattie and Anthony Telesha that were taken on that September morning a few months ago also accompany the artworks. Seen here, for instance, is an oil painting called “The White Barn” by John Swatsley, a recognized and respected artist. Mr Swatsely’s painting is accompanied by photographs taken of him while he began the artwork.

Eleven works are on view, plus an assortment of photographs. Most of the paint-out artworks are available for purchase.

“Paint-Out at Cherry Grove Farm” is on view until March 11 in The Corner Gallery at Walnut Hill Community Church. The gallery is just inside the main lobby of the church, and the public is welcome to visit the show during regular church hours. The church office can be contacted by calling 796-7373, and the church is at 156 Walnut Hill Road.
