A Few More Answers Needed

To the Editor:

I’m writing to comment on John Voket’s recent article “Community Center Design Issues Compromising Budget, Could Delay Opening.” I applaud Dan Rosenthal for keeping a level head in this setback. The community center has been a lengthy process, and our town is anxious to enjoy this new facility.

But we have to ask: what happened? This shouldn’t have been a complicated project. It seems overly kind to use the term “design issues.” Words such as “errors” or “mistake” seem more appropriate. Errors by whom? The GC, the engineering firm, architects, the seniors? (Just kidding!) Who will cover the resulting cost increases — our town?

Did our contracts with the builder and design team address this possibility?

I hope John Voket can provide a clear picture and a few answers in his subsequent articles.

Sincerely,

Peter Van Buskirk
