Stuart Larry Goosman, PhD, of Wilton died March 6, at Danbury Hospital. He was born April 29, 1953, in Bridgeport, to Juliette (Rosen) and Jerome M. Goosman.

He leaves behind his wife of 27 years, Maxine Tobias, and his two sons, Jerome Goosman and Antonio Goosman. His sister, Robin Maxwell, predeceased him.

A working musician, college professor, author, and professional writer, Dr Goosman's life was not short on accomplishments. He was raised in Newtown, and his lifelong love of music began at an early age. He played in the horn section of a touring band for four years. He graduated from Western Connecticut State University with a BA in music, cum laude, in 1983. He then earned a PhD in ethnomusicology at the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1992, and gigged with the Afro-pop band Je Ka Jo (meaning "Let's Dance").

He met Maxine at the University of Washington. They were married in 1989, then relocated with their first-born to Austin, Texas, where Dr Goosman taught at the University of Texas at Austin. After moving to Wilton, in 2001, he began his corporate writing career, eventually forming his own independent writing firm, Executive Business Writing.

Dr Goosman was a lifetime lover of music, but his other passion that almost rivaled music was basketball. He was a regular at the Wilton Y since first moving to Wilton, playing three times a week and hardly missing a day for more than a decade.

He understood the value of hard work and encouraged both of his boys to follow their passions unconditionally.

A memorial service will be held at the Wilton Library, 137 Old Ridgefield Road, in the Brubeck Room, on Saturday, March 18, from 7 to 9 pm.
