The Newtown Democratic Town Committee will host a free Municipal Campaign Training workshop for Connecticut residents, Saturday, April 6, from 9 am to 4 pm, at Reed Intermediate School, 3 Trades Lane. All are welcome.

The workshops are designed for anyone interested in the election process, from running for office to supporting local campaigns and/or helping out a potential candidate.

This free event offers practical advice, tips, and insight on running for office; sharing the various components necessary for those considering candidacy, campaign management; and how volunteers get people elected. To attend for part or all of the day, spots may be reserved in advance at eventbrite.com/e/municipal-campaign-training-2019-registration-54952842431 or at newtownctdemocrats.org. There is limited space available for walk-ins. E-mail questions to newtownctdems@gmail.com.

Current state Democratic Party Chair and former Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman welcomes attendees, and Connecticut Attorney General William Tong will address the group during lunch, which is free to all attendees.

Workshops include F ield Organizing, SEEC, Get Out The Vote, Social Media Tips, Fundraising, Communication, VAN 101, a special session for student voters/activists, and many others. A full list can be found at newtownctdemocrats.org or on the Newtown DTC Facebook page. The workshops are taught by Connecticut industry pros with vast experience working for a variety of candidates on the campaign trail.

Workshops are offered in morning and afternoon sessions to give prospective candidates and the volunteers interested in supporting them the tools needed to run for office.

A panel discussion features local candidates and representatives, while the panel discussion with local Connecticut representatives offers attendees the opportunity to hear from local and statewide candidates about their motivations, successes, and experiences on the campaign trail and in office.

This is the second biannual Newtown DTC Municipal Campaign Training. Two years ago, the event drew more than 100 people from Newtown and surrounding towns. Newtown resident and DTC chair Eric Paradis said, “There’s a lot of energy and enthusiasm statewide, and we anticipate a large turnout. With Nancy Wyman kicking off the morning, AG William Tong keynoting lunch, and this amazing group of presenters, we absolutely expect a sell-out. Most people want to help out come election time, just don’t know what to do. These workshops will teach them what that is and provide the practical skills to do it.”

The Newtown Democratic Town Committee (DTC) is the local Democratic Party organization in Newtown, Connecticut, responsible for recruiting and supporting the elections of Democratic Party candidates to local, state, and federal office.
