Jimmy Gaston, an eighth grader at the Newtown Middle School, was one of 13 boys to recently make the United States Water Polo Northeast Zone team.

The Northeast zone team draws its top players from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

The United States Water Polo Zone Development teams are governed by the United States Olympic Committee, with the ultimate goal to promote programs that lead to gold medals in Olympic and International competition.

From March 18-21 the team traveled to Newport Beach, California to compete in the 2004 National Selection Tournament Camp. Gaston is also a highly-ranked Connecticut State swimmer with a National cut in the 200-meter backstroke.

He swims for the Wilton YMCA Wahoos and plays for the Wilton Y Water Polo Team.
