To the Editor:

On March 15th, 1.5 million children protested for climate justice worldwide. In Connecticut, we can continue this march by advocating for clean action groups for all towns. At the federal level, you can support the The Energy Innovation and Carbon Fee Dividend bill (HR 763).

Last week at the Southbury Board of Selectmen’s meeting, I advocated for a clean action group. This would be comprised of a group of volunteers that will develop a plan that will help the town and residents save money by promoting and implementing energy efficiency programs. SustainableCT is a certification program that can guide us to our goal. This program helps cities and towns become more vibrant, healthy, resilient, and thriving places for all residents. They are also there to provide the resources to help us achieve success.

You can also support The Energy Innovation and Carbon Fee Dividend bill (H.R. 763) that was introduced into Congress by the Citizens Climate Lobby. If this bill is passed, a $15 fee will be collected on carbon emissions at the source. One hundred percent of the net fees are returned to the consumer as a dividend which will benefit the poor and middle class. Last month, I invited a representative to my meeting who said he wasn’t familiar with this subject. That is why we need to educate our representatives.

I urge you to get involved. The type of air we breathe equates to the health and well-being of us all. Your actions can save money, and better yet, save our planet. We need to work together, and I know we want the best for our kids.

March with our children and tell officials that we want action. Thank you.
