Wednesday, April 25 – 4 to 8 pm – “Growing Together 2001”

Middle Gate School – open to parents. Workshops on Reading, Writing, Creativity, Real Boys, Family and School Collaboration, Math, Software, Bullying, Conflict Resolution, Language, Classroom Management, and more.

Wednesday, April 11 – “Behind the Scenes at a Local Animal Clinic” with Dr Neal Warner, Newtown Animal Clinic.

Wednesday, April 25 – “A New Way to Watch TV,” with Greg Van Antwerp, Public Access Supervisor, Charter Communications.

*Tour a local TV studio

*Hands-on equipment operation

*See yourself on TV

*Learn how to view TV differently

These programs are free of charge; limit 10 students per class.

Registration for these two programs is required. Please call NYS at 270-4335.

4-H: Wednesdays, 4-5:30 pm. Harvest your own flowers and vegetables in a garden plot you design yourself! Help us build a Butterfly Plant Nursery, a Children’s Theme Garden, and a Chicken and Rabbit Garden. Plant a row for the hungry in our garden and bring your pet to our pet show. We meet at NYS, so come and join us.

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

2nd Annual Independent Living Day, Saturday, May 5 – Looking for adult and student volunteers to go to senior citizens’ homes and do odd jobs which assist them in living independently.

Two different time shifts. Breakfast and lunch will be served to volunteer crews. Entire day runs from 9 am to 3 pm. Please call NYS to volunteer your time for a very worthwhile cause – 270-4335.

PROGRAMS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

“Cops and Docs” – Presented by Officer Gladys Pisani, NPD; Barbara Reilly, RN; and Joyce LaForte, RN – Wednesday, April 11 – 5:30 pm at Newtown Youth Services. This is a national alternative violence prevention program presented by the police and medical professionals. Purpose: to help high school students to become more aware and learn effective ways to protect themselves and their friends. Please RSVP to NYS at 270-4335.

ACTS NEEDED – NYCAAP/HS YAB Talent Show for students AND teachers! To be held on Wednesday, April 25 – Newtown High School. Auditions will be held three different times – one right after school, one around 5 pm, and one evening. Please call NYS for audition information. Please call NYS with audition information. Monies raised will be used to benefit AIDS Service Projects and the YAB Scholarship Fund.

YOUTH GROUP MEETINGS

THE HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD (HS YAB) – Will meet on Monday, April 23, from  5:30 to 6:30 pm.

MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD (MS YAB) ­– Meeting will be held at 8 am on Tuesday, April 3. Breakfast will be served! Big project upcoming to discuss.

NYCAAP will meet on Tuesday, April 3. Meeting time is 5:30 to 6:30 pm.
