The Foundation

Of Song Writing

REDDING — The next workshop in the Hermes Art Series at Mark Twain Library will welcome songwriter David Morgan on Sunday, April 6.

Mr Morgan, a Redding resident, will be teaching the foundation of song writing through this three hour workshop. He will cover the fundamental concepts of songwriting, cite examples of great song writers, and play some of his music to show where his influences have come from.

The workshop is geared toward ages 13 and older and will run from noon to 3 pm. Those attending are encouraged to bring their instruments and songs they have written. There is no charge for the workshop, but reservations are requested. Call the library for more information and reservations at 203-938-2545.

Through his love of music, David Morgan has become an accomplished pianist, singer, songwriter, producer, arranger and educator. Mr Morgan’s career began at the age of 5 playing the piano and throughout his childhood, he won numerous piano and keyboard competitions playing jazz.

He went on to graduate from the University of New Orleans studying jazz under piano legend Ellis Marsalis.  For more than 15 years, Ms Morgan has traveled around the world performing with musicians from jazz great Wynton Marsalis to rocker Peter Himmelman and cabaret vocalist Diana Canova.

In addition to performing locally and abroad, over the last ten years Mr Morgan has been producing albums for various artists such as Neshama Carlebach who he has toured with in Russia, South Africa, England and Israel.

The Hermes Art Series was created three years ago with a generous gift from Helen and Allen Hermes, longtime benefactors of the Mark Twain Library. The series was designed as a tribute to the ongoing artistic legacy of Redding, to honor the arts, past and present.
