The Lives And Preferences

Of Butterflies

Now that winter is slowly leaving Connecticut and the spring bulbs are sprouting, The Town and Country Garden Club of Newtown would like to invite residents to a presentation on butterflies that will be offered at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook, on Wednesday, April 9, at 7 pm.

The presentation will be by author, illustrator and naturalist John Himmelman. He is the co-founder of the Connecticut Butterfly Association and has lectured and led many trips around the country searching for various flora and fauna for many years.

Mr Himmelman’s popular slide presentation will answer many of the questions asked about the lives, and preferences, of this group of insects. He uses photographs taken in and around his home in Connecticut. Some topics he will be covering are butterfly families, species, lifestyles, locating butterflies, and creating butterfly habitats. Also included will be a short section on moths, the “cousins” of butterflies.

The program is free and open to the public.
