STATEWIDE — We live in a world of screens: smartphones, laptops, tablets; sometimes it is important to get away from it all. That is why Girl Scouts of Connecticut welcomes all girls K-12 to join Girl Scouts of Connecticut Summer Camps. Registration is open now to sign up for a summer to remember.

Summer camp offers fun and challenging activities for all girls. Girl Scouts of Connecticut’s summer camps are licensed by the State of Connecticut and accredited by the American Camp Association. Girl Scouts of Connecticut operates seven day camps and one resident camp in the following towns: Camp An-Se-Ox in Oxford, Camp Aspetuck in Weston, Camp Carlson in Bristol, Camp Clatter Valley in New Milford, Camp Katoya in Milford, Camp Merrie-Wood in Manchester, and Camp Laurel in Lebanon.

Girl Scouts would not be Girl Scouts without the great outdoors. At summer camp, girls will develop the kind of outdoor skills that are hard to get anywhere else, like building a campfire, pitching a tent, canoeing across the lake, and hiking the trails. What about horseback riding, outdoor adventure, swimming, and archery? Girls will find out how much fun it is to unplug and explore the world around them.

Girl Scouts of Connecticut’s summer camp is a great way for girls to explore leadership, build skills, and develop a deep appreciation for nature. Whether for a day, a week, or longer, Girl Scout camp gives girls an opportunity to grow, explore, and have fun under the guidance of caring, trained adults.

Girls with more frequent outdoor experiences are more likely to seek challenges and solve problems — qualities that will help them embark on a lifetime of leadership. Spending time in nature improves a girl’s concentration and creative reasoning. Outdoor experiences also help promote healthy social development and increases self-esteem.

Each member of the Girl Scout of Connecticut summer camp staff has been carefully screened and chosen for their skills and experience, receiving 30 hours of training in child development, team-building, safety, and risk management.

Girl Scouts of Connecticut offers free bus services from many local towns. Financial aid is available, and Care 4 Kids is accepted. Girl Scouts of Connecticut will also be hosting camp information and registration nights in March. For more information, visit gsofct.org, call 800-922-2770, or e-mail camp@gsofct.org.
