Newtown High School's girls' and boys' tennis teams both picked up their first wins of the campaign. The girls, following losses to Joel Barlow of Redding and Bunnell of Stratford April 6 and 8, respectively, defeated Immaculate of Danbury and Brookfield on back-to-back afternoons, April 11 and 12. All of the girls' team matches were at home. The boys, after falling to host Barlow and visiting Pomperaug of Southbury, April 6 and 8, bested Immaculate on the road on April 11.

In a 6-1 loss to Barlow, the girls' squad got its win at the top singles position as Lauren Beier earned a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Olivia Massey. At third singles, Anna Biondi pushed Barlow's Callie Higgins to a third set, before Higgins prevailed 6-1, 7-5, 6-2.

Against Bunnell, in a 4-3 defeat, Newtown's doubles teams all picked up wins in shortened eight-game pro sets necessitated by the cold weather. The boys' tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Barlow on April 6 and a 6-1 match to visiting Pomperaug of Southbury two days later. Newtown then earned a 6-1 win over Immaculate.

Top singles player Joey Conrod won his match against Joel Barlow in a tight match, edging Dheven Duenwald 7-6, 7-5.

Conrod went three sets with Nick Stoiana before falling 6-2, 2-6, 3-6. Fourth singles player Jackson Dooley also went three sets, losing 4-6, 6-2, 5-7 to Ryan Dagan.

In the first team win of the campaign, Conrod, Matt Carino, and Dooley won at first, second, and fourth singles, respectively. Conrod, Carino, and Dooley all played strongly from the back court in their wins, Coach Alex Bollman said. Peter Winans, who fell at third singles, is showing improvement, the coach notes. All of the doubles teams were aggressive in their triumphs, Bollman added.
