Two tails wagged as people walked in the doors of Your Healthy Pet on Saturday, April 9. Ozzie, a 2-year-old Blue Heeler mix with a soft speckled coat, and Jaxson, a one-and-half-year-old Lab and hound mix with a sleek brown coat, both perked their ears up as people entered the store.

It was the third time this year that volunteers from the Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) had visited the store with animals up for adoption.

DAWS volunteer Chris Logiudici said Jaxson "has a lot of energy, but he is very, very sweet," as the dog wiggled for attention in his arms, nuzzling his head against Mr Logiudici.

DAWS volunteer Echo MacKenzie said Ozzie loves belly rubs and car rides.

Ms MacKenzie, Mr Logiudici, Jaxson, and Ozzie were all visiting Your Healthy Pet for the start of the morning visit, and two other handlers and dogs were scheduled to arrive later in the afternoon.

In the back of the store a black and white medium-haired kitten named Sakura quietly stretched her neck into resident Laurie Nydell's hand as DAWS volunteer Cindy Girgenti introduced the pair.

Sakura, Jaxson, and Ozzie were all available for adoption through DAWS as of that morning.

According to Your Healthy Pet owners Tom and Mary-Kay Novak, the store began hosting DAWS Meet and Greet events after DAWS volunteer Kristen Backus visited their store. A conversation generated the organization of mostly monthly visits by adoptable pets and handlers, Mr Novak said.

Animals and DAWS volunteers visited the store in February, March, and this month.

Mr Novak said the May visit is expected to be cats-only, and the event in June should include both adoptable cats and dogs.

Mr Novak also shared the news on Wednesday, April 13, from DAWS that Ozzie was adopted after Saturday's event.

"We hope we can get them all a home," said Mr Novak.

Your Healthy Pet, Mr Novak said, has been in the area for seven years and is proud of the products it carries. The storeowners also believe, he said, that dogs that eat healthy have a better chance of staying healthy.

"Rescues are a favorite breed… We just love working with rescues groups. We are so happy when one gets adopted," Mr Novak said.

The DAWS Meet and Greet events at Your Healthy Pet are announced through store newsletters, Mr Novak said, on the store's Facebook page, Your Healthy Pet, and on DAWS's Facebook page, DAWS: Danbury Animal Welfare Society.

More information about DAWS and adoptable dogs and cats are located available through the society is available at its website daws.org.
