To the Editor: ipse dixit statements are part of his intended modus operandi.ipse dixit statements are dominating his campaign.  We can become fiscally responsible, but it will take more than eight years. While there are still extraneous expenses contained in our budgets that should be eliminated by our Congress, we cannot elect a man who, intentionally or unintentionally misleads the public.

I think Mr Trump skipped all of his math classes in college, because he states, if elected President, he will reduce taxes, while eliminating $19 trillion of our debt in eight years.

This statement was made on a prime time television station, while expressing his math acumen. But, then again, his

So then, let's take a look at the impact of eliminating our debt in eight years. Forget about reducing taxes for the moment. Consider that the interest rate, on our national debt, would be a mere 1.5 per-cent. That would mean that we, in order to pay down the debt in eight years, would incur a monthly payment of $210.2 billion or $2.522 trillion per year.

Now consider the fact that we (US Government) spend $3.65 trillion dollars per year (Office of Management and Budget number), which  includes an interest only payment of $402.4 billion (equivalent to 2.1 percent) on our current $19.0 trillion dollar debt paid in 2015. We take in $3.25 trillion per year ( Federal Budget History projection) leaving us with an annual deficit of $40 billion per year, which is added to our national debt.

Consider, also, that the difference between our current interest payment of $402.4 billion dollars per year and the amortization of $19.0 trillion dollars over an eight-year period would increase our annual spending to $5.75 trillion.  [That is $2.5 trillion minus $402.4 billion, (currently included in our budget), plus our current spending rate of $3.65 trillion dollars]. How, then, will Mr Trump pay down our national debt in eight years without raising taxes? Even if we reduce our current expenditures by 10 per-cent from $3.65 trillion to $3.285 trillion and then add back the amortization of $19.0 trillion over eight years we would increase our spending to $5.41 trillion dollars per year.

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the United States in fiscal 2015 was $18.287 trillion dollars. That GDP generated revenue for the 0government of $3.25 trillion. Therefore, if we consider paying down the debt in eight years we would have to somehow stimulate our GDP to increase to $29.54 trillion dollars, (based on a linear mathematical equation) in order to provide sufficient funds to pay down the national debt.

Unfortunately, these numbers do not support reducing taxes. They, conversely, increase taxes. How, then can we address eliminating $19 trillion dollars of debt over eight years? We cannot, which is my major concern of a candidate who professes to be smart and a successful business man, while  ignoring simple mathematics. His

Hyperbole is Trump's middle name. Accept it.
