Pay It Forward: Vote Yes On The Budget April 23

To the Editor:

I serve on the Legislative Council in District 3 and I’ll be voting to support the budget on 4/23. To be clear, these opinions are my own, not of the entire LC. It’s about paying-it-forward.

My husband and I moved to Newtown two years ago. Our children are adults and on their own. We don’t use the public schools, but we still value their importance, so we pay our tax bill to pay-it-forward, just like the neighbors did before us.

It’s not just about the schools either, it’s about the quality of life that Newtown provides with its services. We may not use the schools, but we still use the library, the parks, the transfer station, and the roads to get there. If I have an emergency, I want those vehicles to be in good repair and timely. Newtown provides that.

After many weeks of careful scrutiny, the budget was passed by the Board of Finance and the Legislative Council. The chairmen of both agreed that additional cuts will seriously impact services provided to many Newtown residents. There are simply no areas left to trim.

I’ll be voting to support the budget as is to pay-it-forward for the quality of life that I moved to Newtown for. I hope other voters do the same.

Thank you,

Heather Dean
