Sophia Agnes (Kuhlmann) McKee Greenstein Wiss, 88, died peacefully April 18, at her home in Newtown. From her bedside she had a perfect view of the gardens and manicured grounds of which she was so proud, and the darting birds she loved to feed and watch. She fought a long and valiant battle with MDS leukemia.www.nfa.orgIn lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Newtown Forest Association, 55 Great Hill Road, Newtown, CT 06470 (www.honanfh.comTo leave an online condolence visit

She was born January 6, 1928, in Philadelphia, and was a daughter of the late Stella Althea and Heinrich Friedrich Kuhlmann.

Anyone who knew Mrs Wiss could attest that she was not only beautiful, but also a gracious hostess, gourmet cook, expert gardener, avid reader, excellent seamstress, and prolific knitter. She traveled extensively and visited many exotic places, frequently bringing her King George III silver flask with her "just in case."

She moved to Newtown in 1946 and spent most of her life there. She lived on Lake Hopatcong in New Jersey for seven years with her third husband, Thomas H. Wiss III, but always had a special love for Newtown and her home there.

She leaves behind four children, Lewis "Mackie" McKee, engaged to Carter Sack; Sophia "Maya," married to John G. Heyniger; Miriam Jo "Mo," married to William J. Fitzpatrick III; and Eugenia Wiss, married to Thomas H. Wiss IV, who was also her stepson. She also leaves nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, her sister Josephine Spector, and brother, Commander Dietrich Kuhlmann, USN retired, and many devoted nieces and nephews. A sister, Lois Kuhlmann, died in 2005, which broke her heart.

She outlived her three husbands: Lewis W. McKee, with whom she had four children; Dr Louis Greenstein; and the love of her life, Thomas H. Wiss III. At the time of her death she was engaged to Grant Lennox, who, like Mr Wiss, was a Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club past commodore. Mrs Wiss was an honorary member of the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club for 19 years and spent many pleasant evenings there.

The family extends many thanks to Regional Hospice and Home Care and Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital for the exceptional care they gave Mrs Wiss.

The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday, April 24, from 10 am to 12:15 pm, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, followed by interment at the Newtown Village Cemetery.
