Hit Vehicle From Driveway

Newtown Police report John Celli, 18, of Newtown, operating a 2016 Nissan Rogue, was backing from a driveway onto Schoolhouse Hill Road at 6:25 pm April 2. Bennett Gogliettino, 17, of Newtown, operating a 2000 Buick Century, was traveling westbound on Schoolhouse Hill Road. Celli’s vehicle collided with Gogliettino’s.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Celli was issued a verbal warning for failure to yield right of way at a driveway.

Incident In Intersection

Newtown Police report Rigoberto Ventura, 41, of Stamford, operating a 2012 Isuzu NRR, was traveling south on Currituck Road at 12:03 pm April 3. Ryan Smith, 36, of Southbury, operating a 2015 Ram Truck, was traveling north on Currituck Road. Ventura attempted to turn left onto Hedge Meadow Road as Smith approached, causing both vehicles to collide head on.

No injuries were reported. Smith’s vehicle was towed.

Ventura was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Donato Telesco, 73, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2011 Mazda CX-9, was traveling southbound on Queen Street, approaching the traffic light at the entrance to 6 Queen Street, at 11:48 am April 8. Cody Maillet, 31, of Newtown, operating a 2013 Nissan Altima, was traveling ahead of Telesco, and was stopped at the traffic light. The front end of Telesco’s vehicle struck the rear of Maillet’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Telesco was given a verbal warning for following too close.

Passing On Right

Newtown Police report Kelly West, 40, of Monroe, operating a 2017 Honda Pilot, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 8:57 am April 9. She was traveling behind a 2014 Chevrolet Spark operated by Jose Leon, 34, of Stratford. Leon began a right turn and West attempted to pass Leon on the right. The left front section of West’s vehicle struck the right rear section of Leon’s vehicle.

Leon complained of back injuries but was not transported. Leon’s vehicle was towed.

West was issued a written warning for passing on the right.

Crossed Traffic When Unsafe

Newtown Police report Nelly Mercado, 47, of Stratford, operating a 2013 Mazda CX-5 Touring, was traveling southbound on Hanover Road, approaching the intersection of Hanover Road and South Main Street, at 6:32 pm April 9. William Hicock, 70, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Ram Truck 1500, was traveling northbound on Main Street. Mercado made a left turn without yielding right of way to oncoming traffic, causing the right front end of her vehicle to strike the right side of Hicock’s vehicle.

Mercado reported minor injuries but was not transported. Mercado’s vehicle was towed.

Mercado was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way while making a left turn.

Ford Hits Jeep

Newtown Police report Pollyana DeOliveira, 35, of Cos Cob, operating a 2023 Ford Edge, was at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Main Street at 7:03 am April 11. Santos Igor, 22, of Danbury, operating a 2004 Jeep Liberty, was traveling southbound on Main Street. DeOliveira entered the intersection and struck Igor’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

DeOliveira was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.

Rear-Ended On Main Street

Newtown Police report Marcus Joyner, 27, of Danbury, operating a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta, was traveling southbound on Main Street at 7:21 am April 11. Barry Fleming, 59, of Danbury, operating a 2006 Chrysler 300c, was traveling southbound on Main Street ahead of Joyner. Fleming slowed for traffic and Joyner rear-ended his vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Joyner was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Home Improvements Without License

Newtown Police report that at 7:30 am April 12, Southbury Police transported Christopher Missano, 23, of Newtown, to the Newtown Police Department for processing on a warrant. The warrant was from the Department of Consumer Protection stemming from an incident in October 2022.

Missano was charged with two counts of making or offering to make home improvements without a license.

He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of April 25 in Danbury Superior Court.

Did Not Obey Stop Sign

Newtown Police report Silva Borges, 20, of Danbury, operating a 2006 Honda Civic, was traveling on Hattertown Road approaching Dodgingtown Road at 11:41 am April 11. Bernard Cerreta, 66, of Stratford, operating a 2014 Ford Econoline, was traveling southbound on Dodgingtown Road. Borges proceeded through the stop sign at the intersection of Hattertown Road and Dodgingtown Road and collided head on with Cerreta’s vehicle.

Borges was transported to Danbury Hospital for suspected injuries. Both vehicles were towed.

Borges was issued an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Collision On Hattertown Road

Newtown Police report Adrian Cajamarca, 20, of Bethel, operating a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt, was traveling northbound on Hattertown Road at 6:28 pm April 11. He was traveling behind a 2023 Subaru Crosstrek operated by Hebatallah Mabrouk, 25, of Danbury. Mabrouk stopped due to a turning vehicle. Cajamarca did not stop in time, and struck the rear of Mabrouk’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Cajamarca was issued an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without a license and following too close.

Struck Downed Tree

Newtown Police report James Anastasia, 68, of Bethel, operating a 2019 Hyundai Tuscon, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 5:53 am April 12. Anastasia struck a tree which had fallen on the roadway, blocking the southbound lane.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Hit Utility Pole

Newtown Police report that Dian Yudelove, 66, of Blue Point, N.Y., operating a 2013 Subaru Forrester, was traveling northeast on Hanover Road at 8:18 pm April 12. Yudelove said she was utilizing a GPS system to navigate and while looking at the GPS, she crossed the center line in the roadway and then struck a utility pole.

Yudelove suffered a suspected minor injury but declined transport. The vehicle was towed.

Yudelove was issued an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Hit Car Stopped At Light

Newtown Police report Jose Chimbolema-Guilliin, 38, of Danbury, operating a 2010 Honda CR-V, was traveling northbound on Toddy Hill Road at 5:53 pm April 15. Andrew Rowan, 60, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2016 Toyota Tacoma, was stopped at a traffic light on Toddy Hill Road at the intersection of Berkshire Road, ahead of Rowan. Chimbolema-Guillin rear-ended Rowan’s vehicle.

Rowan said his arm hurt but declined transport. Neither vehicle was towed.

Chimbolema-Guillin was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and a verbal warning for operating a motor vehicle without a license.
