Woman’s Club To Sponsor

Food Drive April 25

Newtown Woman’s Club GFWC, Inc will hold its 3rd Annual Federation For Food Collection Day at the Super Stop & Shop in Sand Hill Plaza, 228 Main Street South, on Saturday, April 25, from 9 am until 3 pm. This food collection is being held to commemorate the General Federation of Women’s Clubs Federation Day.

All nonperishable food collected will be divided between the Salvation Army and FAITH Food Pantries in Newtown. The need for donations is even greater than ever before as the economy has more people looking to the food pantries for help.

The Newtown Social Services Department reports that the need for food has nearly doubled since last year with the unemployment rate rising as well as higher utility bills. Any nonperishable foods, including canned soups, vegetables, stews, tuna, rice mixes, peanut butter, jelly, juices, cereals, and baby food, as well as cat or dog food, would be greatly appreciated.

Shoppers are invited to drop off donations — either something purchased that day or in advance that has a current expiration date. Club members will be on hand to accept all donations and to thank those residents willing to help others in need.
