Truck Vandalism

Sometime between April 13 and April 20, someone intentionally damaged a truck that was parked at a construction site located off Oak Ridge Drive, police said. Police are investigating the vandalism and ask anyone with knowledge of the criminal mischief to contact them at the police station.

Interstate Accident

State police report a three-vehicle accident about 5:25 pm on April 15 on eastbound Interstate 84, about one-half mile west of Exit 10.

State police said that an unidentified motorist in an unspecified vehicle was weaving through heavy traffic during the evening rush.

That vehicle struck a 2003 Saturn L-200 driven by a Danbury man, causing the Saturn to spin around and then strike a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder driven by another Danbury man, state police said.

The Saturn driver received a possible injury.

After the crash, the driver of the unspecified vehicle left the scene. If located, that driver would be charged with evading responsibility, traveling too fast for conditions, cutting into traffic, and failure to maintain the proper lane, state police said.

Highway Crash

State police report that motorist Liliane DeCarvalho, 52, of Danbury who was driving a 2012 Jeep Liberty SUV on Interstate 84 near Exit 9 at about 6 pm on April 15, stopped in heavy traffic and was then struck from behind by motorist Meredith Hudak, 27, of Branford, who was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt.

State police said that DeCarvalho and Jeep passenger Lillian Vieira, 29, of Danbury were transported for treatment of minor injuries. Hudak received an infraction for following too closely, state police said.

Arrest Warrant

Police report that on the afternoon of April 17, they executed an arrest warrant against an unidentified youth, charging the person with failure to respond to an infraction in connection with a past littering violation. Such littering violations carry a fine of $219.

Newtown police said that they were assisting state police at an investigation at a Sandy Hook residence when they realized that they held an active arrest warrant against a youth at that residence.

Because the youth did not either pay the littering fine, or plead not guilty to the violation, the court issued a warrant for the youth’s arrest on a charge of failure to respond to an infraction.

After the youth posted a $219 cash bail, police released the person from custody for a May 1 court appearance. Police did not disclose the person’s identity because he/she is under age 18.

Two Violations

Police report they stopped a motorist to investigate at about 7:22 am on April 18 near 123 South Main Street.

Police said they charged motorist Raymond Petrillo, 50, of Waterbury with using a handheld cellphone while driving and with driving with a suspended license. Petrillo was released on a written promise to appear in court on April 30, police said.

Multiple Charges

Police report a two-vehicle accident about 11 am on April 18 on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with High Rock Road, which resulted in a driver being charged with five offenses.

Motorist Tracy Kuligowski, 43, of 3 Cider Mill Road was driving a 2008 Acura MDX SUV eastward on Berkshire Road and then slowed for traffic conditions, after which the Acura was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Scott Schofield, 35, of East Haven, who was driving a 2004 Hyundai Accent sedan, police said.

Both Schofield and Kuligowski received injuries in the accident, police said. Schofield was transported to Danbury Hospital for medical treatment, police report.

Police said they charged Schofield with providing a false name to police, driving under suspension, following too closely, use of a handheld cellphone while driving, and distracted driving.

Schofield was released on $500 bail for a May 2 court appearance, police said.

Illegal Alcohol Possession

At about 12:01 am on April 19, police said they received a report of suspicious activity occurring in the area near the intersection of Farmery Lane and Great Ring Road, off Berkshire Road, so they responded to that area to investigate.

The suspicious activity allegedly involved unknown persons walking around behind houses in that area, police said.

Police report that after investigating, they issued Tressa Scott, 18, of 18 Mt Pleasant Road an infraction on a charge of illegal possession of alcohol by a minor. Such violations carry a fine which is payable by mail, or may be appealed in court.

Honda vs Honda

According to a police report, on the night of April 20, motorist Loredana DeNardis, 51, of Danbury, who was driving a 2004 Honda Pilot SUV, backed the Pilot into a unoccupied, parked 2008 Honda CRV SUV at 45 Main Street, thus damaging the CRV. The CRV is owned by a Monroe woman.

DeNardis then left the scene of the collision without reporting the crash, police said.

Police said they found DeNardis at her residence and then charged her with evading responsibility.

DeNardis posted $1,000 bail and was released for a May 2 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

South Main Crash

About 5:20 pm on April 20, motorist Alexander Wesler, 23, of Monroe, who was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima sedan southward on South Main Street, stopped and was waiting for traffic at South Main Street’s intersection with Prospect Drive, when the Nissan was struck from behind by southbound motorist Ulises Ordonez-Rivera, 24, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1999 Audi A-4 station wagon, police said.

Wesler received minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene, police said. Ordonez-Rivera received an infraction on charges of failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and driving without a license, police said.

Nighthawk Lane

Police are investigating a case of theft/vandalism involving a curbside residential mailbox that occurred at a residence on Nighthawk Lane sometime between 9:30 pm on April 20 and 8 am on April 21. Nighthawk Lane is a dead-end street that extends from Berkshire Road. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at the police station.

DUI Incident

Police report that at about 12:50 am on April 21, they saw a motorist driving eastward on the section of Route 302 between its intersections with Taunton Hill Road and Hattertown Road.

Police said that the 2001 Lexus RX-300 SUV driven by Kathleen Waldron, 40, of Danbury crossed Route 302’s center lines several times, so they stopped the auto on Hattertown Road to investigate.

Police report they charged Waldron with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and driving with a suspended license.

After processing, police released Waldron on bail for a May 2 court appearance.

Toyota vs Hyundai

Police report that motorist Robert Rochefort, 52, of Norwalk, who was driving a 2009 Hyundai Elantra sedan southward on South Main Street at about 7:55 am on April 22, stopped and was waiting for traffic near the entrance to a gas station/convenience store at 151 South Main Street.

Southbound motorist Tito Ruiz, 24, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2000 Toyota Corolla sedan, then drove into the rear end of the Hyundai, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report Ruiz received an infraction for following too closely and for failure to carry a driver’s license.

Also, police said they learned that there was a pending arrest warrant against Ruiz regarding a past Bridgeport incident.

Thus, police charged Ruiz with second-degree failure to appear in court, improper use of marker plates, failure to have automotive insurance, theft of marker plates, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

After processing, police release Ruiz on $500 bail for a May 7 appearance in Bridgeport Superior Court.
