Track And Field Teams Compete

Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ track and field teams competed in meets this week. The girls defeated all three opponents they faced in a competition at Joel Barlow in Redding on April 23, improving to 6-0 this spring, and the boys defeated two of three opponents at Blue & Gold Stadium on April 22. Results are as follows:

Girls

Newtown 78, Joel Barlow 72; Newtown 84.5, Brookfield 65.5; Newtown 106, New Fairfield 40.

First place overall finishers: 4x100, 52.7. 100 hurdles, Melissa Buccino, 16.5. 300 hurdles, Buccino, 48.3. 1600, Hannah Schwartz, 5:17.61. Shot put, Amy Anyoha, 29 feet. Pole vault, Jenna Calandro, 10.

Boys

New Fairfield 95, Newtown 54; Newtown 71, Brookfield 70; Newtown 84, Barlow 52.

First place overall finishers: 1600, Jake Feinstein, 4:22. 3200, Feinstein, 9:52. Javelin, Ryan Erico, 128-10.
