Ahead of the town referendum on the budget on Tuesday, April 28, Head O’ Meadow Elementary School students had their own chance to make their voices heard on Monday, April 27, by voting for new books to be added to the school’s library.

Near the start of voting at Head O’ Meadow, Democratic Registrar of Voters LeReine Frampton and Republican Registrar of Voters JoAnne Albanesi said they were ready for the entire student body at the elementary school to vote.

One by one, during lunch waves at the schools, students were led to the cafetorium’s stage, where Ms Albanesi and Ms Frampton had set up a voting machine. Students were instructed to head to one of the multiple stations set up as voting booths, fill in the corresponding circle for their vote, and to approach Ms Albanesi and Ms Frampton to slide their ballots into the voting machine.

Students had the choice of voting either for “green” books, which would have books about activities, crafts, games, mysteries, detectives, and transportation added to the school’s library, or “orange” books, which would have books about science, nature, “how it works,” action and adventure, and humor added to the library.

Head O’ Meadow’s vote for books event is an annual one at the school. The results were set to be announced at the school on Tuesday.

According to Ms Frampton, after the more than 300 votes were totaled, the orange category books won with 159 votes. Green books earned 143 votes.

After voting, students received stickers that said, “We ♥ books” and “Read.”

Head O’ Meadow kindergartener Ava Geiger cast her vote in her school’s annual Vote For Books event on Monday, April 27, with Republican Registrar of Voters JoAnne Albanesi, left, and Democratic Registrar of Voters LeReine Frampton, center, looking on.
